Carstens Uffrecht, 1930s Germany: Art Deco Trinket Box
A vintage ceramic box from German producer Carstens Uffrecht - dating back to the 1930s.
I originally thought this was a Fat Lava item, but after some research I found out it was produced 20 years before that era started, in the 1930's, though it is by Carstens, a manufacturer that went on to produce some great Fat Lava pottery after the war - the Uffrecht division was in what would become East Germany and was renamed VEB Haldensleben.
A beautifully smooth, rectangular box with curved edges and a perfectly fitting lid, richly glazed in cream, caramel, ochre and orange. It does not have the texture of Fat Lava, but it sure has the style!
The box measures 10.5 x 8.5 x 5 cm (4 x 3 x 2") and is in perfect condition.
There are a few small orange glaze splashes to the inside, which will have occurred during the manufacturing process.
