Alfred Meakin: Teacup and Saucer in the 'Cactus' Pattern
This is one of my all-time favourite china patterns from the 1950s: the highly desirable and hard-to-find cactus pattern by Alfred Meakin. It's kitschy heaven!
A teacup and matching saucer decorated with cacti and with gold gilding to the rims.
Condition is fair: there are two small chips on the rim of the cup and a shallow flake on the edge of the saucer, plus there is some crazing and staining on the outside and inside of the cup and a lot of the gilding has rubbed off. These are all pictured.
This remains a very charming set, but it is for display only and cannot be used (once a piece of china is crazed it is no longer foodsafe.)
The teacup is 6.5 cm / 2.5" high and 8 cm / 3" across the top.
The saucer is 14.5 cm / 5.5" across.
The figurine (nfs) is for scale only and it is 8 cm / 3" high.
